Do most people see a productivity increase in using an IDE?
I've been using Linux as my main OS for a while now. Usually, I use vim, make, clang, gdb, ghc, and clisp to build and debug my projects. Lately, I've been wondering why most people, even experienced developers, use IDEs.
Obviously, there must be a reason why they're so popular among even skilled programmers. I was wondering what distinct aspects of certain IDEs (or IDEs in general) help productivity. For instance, is it the graphical debugger, graphical git diffs, build processes or team collaboration tools?
